we stole time – Darren Thomas

All the shadows

Pulled round her like

Old friends

It’s as if there were mice breeding on the ceiling

And I wanted to speak

Through her tears

Each pierced cheek let the words out

The scent of death

Clung to her like old leaves

Nine lives spread between the three cats in the dream

My only one hung together with the nails and glue

I rebuilt her with

The smoke was eating our moon away

Yet the memories remained

Enclosing us in their perfume

The trail of sand contained pieces of hair

Her edible necklace

In the drawer

It’s as if the tide swept over us at night

We swapped mirrors

We made imaginary maps

We stole time
